Talent Tuesday: DJ Msotra

Talent doesn’t even begin to capture Sithembokuhle Madlala’s genius ear. Better known as Msotra, he hails from Bergville, Woodford, eMhlambozini in Kwa-Zulu Natal. His nickname was given to him by a childhood friend, inspired by the Soa Matrix song “eMsotra.”

Msotra never initially considered becoming a DJ. That changed in 2022 when he visited his brother in Newcastle. Under his brother’s guidance, he was introduced to the world of DJing and immersed himself in the craft. Returning home, he got a computer and began building his personal haven as a DJ. By 2024, during his gap year after matric, he was fully exploring and refining his talent. At this stage, only a few people recognized his skill, including his older sister, whom he adores, and his best friend.

In 2025, Msotra was encouraged by his roommate to enter the first-year talent show during Residence Orientation. It was here that his talent truly shined. Despite initial nerves, he captivated the crowd, leaving them in awe. The following day, people were sending him videos from his performance to praise his work.

Despite his rising recognition, Msotra remains humble and grounded. His ultimate aspiration is to become a globally recognized DJ, not only to pursue his passion but also to provide his sister with a comfortable and stable life. He draws inspiration from powerhouse DJs like Virgo Deep and Kabza De Small but remains committed to his unique sound and style, confident that he too can become a legendary figure in the industry.

Msotra is nothing short of a marvel, and the world eagerly awaits the heights he will reach.
